
Dr. Kara Kolster
Kara Kolster, DVM, DACT
Dr. Kolster is a Board Certified Specialist in Comparative Theriogenology. She completed her residency at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine where she researched on the effects of hypothyroidism on reproduction in the bitch. She was responsible for managing the research breeding colony of dogs and assisted in management of the university’s broodmare herd.
Dr. Kolster is Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists, or veterinarians who specialize in animal reproduction. The term is derived from the ancient Greek "Therio" meaning beast or animal, "gen" as in "genesis" meaning creation, and "ology" meaning the study of... “the study of the creation of the beast.”
Currently, Dr. Kolster is the Medical Director and provides reproductive, acupuncture, and general medicine services at Springfield Veterinary Center, in Richmond Virginia.
In her “spare” time, Dr. Kolster enjoys training in a multitude of dog sports with her Shetland sheepdogs.
