Kate Allison, DVM

Dr. Kate Allison is a seasoned veterinarian with over two decades of experience spanning emergency and critical care, shelter medicine, and general practice. Known internationally for her work in public health and zoonotic disease, she has become an emerging voice in veterinary response to emerging public health threats—most recently, the evolving risk of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI H5N1) in companion animals, especially the risks posed to cats and their human caretakers.

Dr. Allison lectures across the country on infectious disease preparedness, the use of AI in veterinary medicine, and building high-impact communication protocols for clinics and shelters. Her work emphasizes One Health principles and real-world application: whether she’s helping a shelter build outbreak protocols or guiding private practitioners through the latest surveillance data, her focus is always on clarity, compassion, and evidence-based action.

In addition to her clinical work, she’s the creator of Pawogorithms, a Substack dedicated to practical, algorithm-based approaches to veterinary medicine, and is currently developing AI-powered tools for disease surveillance and clinical decision support.
